So they took their problem to "The Marriage Ref" hosted by Tom Papa who will not stop giggling at anything the take the issue to a celebrity guest panel to see what they think. Last week's episode panelists were Cedric the Entertainer (he likes to steal hotel bathrobes, for which he probably gets charged), Martha Stewart (who like our mom, takes the shower caps) and Jason Alexander who believes that it's ok to take the toiletry bottle home with you if you've already used a quarter of it, otherwise housekeeping will throw it out.
But Alexander makes a great point--if you need to buy a piece of Ikea furniture to store your hotel toiletries, then you may have a problem. And Martha seemed suspicious about how this man was acquiring his toiletries, was he stealing them from the housekeeping carts in the hallways? Possibly.
In the end, the toiletry-entitled husband won out but Alexander encouraged him to be the Robin Hood of hotel toiletries, i.e. steal from the hotel and donate to the homeless.
Regardless of how your spouse or partner or roommate or mother feels about your toiletry habits, usually the toiletry people themselves don't care, like the LATHER brand which can be found in Loews Hotels and JDV Hotels. And which was also found in the hoarding husband's supply.
Lori MacGregor, the hotel's PR and Marketing Director, told us that LATHER loves it when people take home their toiletries. This completely makes sense for brands that sell their products outside of hotels but probably not so much for those "Made Especially for The Hotel" brands.
In short, we'd say it would be ok to steal or stash hotel toiletries so long as they were a worthy brand. But please, there's no need to buy a piece of Ikea furniture to store your secret stash.
