Hey, maybe there is something to be said for the Battersea area becoming the fash new stretch of London’s South Bank. First, the Hotel Rafayel has been getting rave reviews, and now it’s the turn of the new Pestana Chelsea Bridge Hotel & Spa, which opened 1 March.

It’s technically under soft opening now, but by the looks of it, it’s pretty much there already.

TripAdvisor only has six reviews so far, but they’re all rave ones, talking about top notch soundproofing and comfy beds (and they don’t smell too much of PR guff either). We’re also particularly keen on the trippy wallpaper (we’re assuming that it’s not actually padded – that would be a bit too asylum-y…)

The hotel is just off the end of Chelsea Bridge, so although it’s technically South London, and South London’s usually a bum to get to, it’s only about a 15 minute bus ride to Victoria (which is better than you can say for lots of hotels north of the river). If you can get over your mental cringing about going south, it should be an easy ride.

Also, of course, what that means is stonking Thameside views – from Battersea Power Station down to the London Eye. Just like the Rafayel! We smell some local rivalry.

A room tonight will set you back £174, including breakfast. On Sunday, though, it drops to a highly affordable £114. If you make it over there, make sure you tell us how it was...
