Supposed to Open Today, Dubai's Armani Hotel Now Delayed Further

Today is supposed to be the first day that the Armani Hotels brand enters the world worth with a working hotel. It was supposed to be the day that the Armani Hotel Dubai opened inside of the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. But as the day grew closer and closers and we heard no updated news on the opening plans, we grew worried, and for good reason. The Armani Hotel will not open today; it is delayed.

Emaar and the Armani Hotel wouldn't even confirm the delay for BusinessWeek, that's how tight-lipped they're being about having to set back the opening from March 18 until at least April 22.

What's the excuse? Find out, after the jump.

Excuses, excuses. The 10-floor, 160-room hotel wants to get every single thing right because the Armani name is connected with it, they say. But then if Armani was concerned about their brand image, then they wouldn't have started the Armani Exchange brand (zing!). More likely, the Armani Hotel is delayed because everything about the Burj Khalifa seems to be delayed.

After the snafu with "electricity"—ah hem, tourists got stuck in a high-speed elevator on its way to the top observation deck—the tourist portions of the building have been closed almost since they officially opened.

We just wonder how Armani Hotel is dealing with the rich and powerful guests who booked the first month's worth of rooms for at least $1,089 a night.
