Forget trying to accumulate Virgin America points at the The Mondrian Scottsdale. Morgans Hotel Group ran the hotel up until Tuesday but since they foreclosed on the property back in December, Bank of America has taken over the unwanted property and replaced the brand with an independent management company, GF Hospitality. The hotel will now be known as The Hotel Theodore.

Dawn Gilbertson at the Arizona Republic reports that most of the Mondrian's staff remains although the hotel will have a new general manager. Additionally, the hotel's far-out trippy design might get toned down a bit:

Henrikson said the company aims to boost the hotel's business by making it more attractive through a subtle redesign. The theme under Mondrian was Garden of Eden with a stark white exterior and white fixtures inside. The hotel's lounges will be renamed Teddy's Lounge and T's.

And since hip jetsetters and gossip mag editors aren't enough to sustain the hotel, the new management company is going after business travelers and local meetings and events.

The Mondrian Scottsdale has effectively been pulled from the MHG website and the new Hotel Theodore site (which is still under construction) is advertising rates at $345 tonight for a standard king room.

We're not bankers or anything but if your hotel property is in foreclosure and you're in desperate need to attract business and deal with a competing W hotel, maybe weeknight rates in Scottsdale could be just a touch lower. You know, just a touch.
