The Thompson Residences, which will open across the street from the Thompson Hotel.

With the news yesterday that Virgin America, the boutique hotel version of an airline, would begin flights from LA and SFO to Toronto, we immediately thought of Thompson Toronto, which is expected to open sometime next month.

Thompson Hotels co-owner Stephen Brandman tells us a May 1 opening date is being thrown around but he's trying to finalize an earlier date than that. However, there is some bigger news with Thompson Toronto.

A new set of residences branded Thompson Residences will open across the street from the hotel. The building will feature 300 residence units, in a neat sort of boxy arrangement, along with a rooftop pool and bar. Residents will have access to some of the Thompson Toronto hotel services but even though the project is being done by the same developer as the hotel, Freed Developments, Brandman says this building is a separate project from the hotel.

A website for the Thompson Residences has already popped up and a video shows off some of the highlights of the property. Check out the views from the rooftop pool. According to Brandman, expected opening/move-in date for the Thompson Residences is expected to be mid-2011 or end of 2011.

Now, what's slightly confusing is that there are already 350 condos attached to the Thompson Toronto hotel but again, this is separate from the Thompson Residences, Brandman says. Residents of the hotel building will have separate entrances and elevators than the hotel guests although they can share in some of the hotel's services which include a heck of a lot like a 42-seat screening theater, a rooftop pool, an ice rink, a Scarpetta restaurant and a nightclub.

As always, we'll keep you posted on the opening date of Thompson Toronto, the hotel, and when you can make reservations. Got any questions about the hotel and what to expect? Let us know and we'll try to get them answered for you.

Is that the front of the hotel?

If the main picture is the front of the hotel then it's quite an odd looking property. The view of the pool and surrounds however is pure class. Troy - Central Coast Accommodation
