This One Goes Out to the Ladies: Would You Stay On a Women Only Floor?

OK, so men are from Mars and women are from Venus. But do they want to stay at different hotels? We’ve seen plenty of girly hotel packages in our travels, but some properties go even further, with amenities geared towards women and in some cases, women only floors.

Our initial reaction is that this sounds a little too much like bitchy boarding school, but we can certainly see how this could make us feel safer in certain places. What do you think? Whether it’s for security or for the female-friendly extras, would you seek out a women-only hotel or women-only floor?

This Vancouver Sun article talks about the differences in the sexes when it comes to choosing hotels. Penelope Trunk, CEO of social network site Brazen Careerist, had this to say:

“Men want their room to be a something where they dump their stuff; they go out drinking, they come back and watch porn. The women want it to be a spa.”

Really? We love a good spa but we don’t always need our room to be pink and fluffy. In fact, sometimes we want a big-screen TV to watch football more than high-end toiletries in the bathroom.

Like the women quoted in the piece, we like a robe and ordering room-service breakfast, but we know men who dig this just as much. But we don’t really see the need for satin-covered skirt hangers in the closet, like those on the Orchid Floor at the Georgian Court Hotel in Vancouver.

This women’s only floor also offers curling irons, yoga mats, ladies “emergency kits” (think tampons), fashion magazines and larger sized Aveda amenities, all at no extra charge.

Other hotels with female-only floors include the Jumeirah Emirates Towers in Dubai, The Hampton Inn & Suites in Albany, and Crowne Plazas in Washington, D.C., and Bloomington, Minnesota.

So, tell us: Have you stayed on a women only floor? Would you? Men and ladies alike, what amenities would you like to see more of in your hotel room? Let us know in the comments below.
