As with any hotel delay, we were disappointed when we learned that the W New York Downtown opening was pushed back until May 4. But thanks to a Page Six magazine interview with real-estate scion Matthew Moinian, we think we have an explanation. “Think of it as a W on steroids,” Moinian told the mag of his pet project. Huh? The W Downtown is busy bulking up and pumping iron?

Actually, the 23-year-old Moinian—who also made the Post’s list of most eligible New York bachelors—was bragging about the W’s “Whatever Whenever” service that will also be available to residents in the condo section of the building. Sadly there was little else to glean from this story, other than the futuristic shot above, and another grand proclamation from our favorite law-student hotelier:

“We wanted it to be unlike any other W: avant-garde, but still functional and comfortable."

If you want to “Own the WOW,” you can become Moinian’s neighbor in the W residences, but if you’d rather just stay a night or two, stay tuned. The hotel is not yet taking reservations but we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as that changes.

Who's one to talk about delays?

I'm also disappointed to read about an article that was published over a year ago.  Can't wait for your coverage of that new SLS place

Yes, it's an old story...

... but somehow we missed the "W on Steroids" comment, and we couldn't resist repeating such a unique way of describing a hotel. Especially one we're so desperate to see / tired of waiting for.

We hope to have fresh details on this W on Steroids very soon!
