Welcome to the corner of 48th Street and Lexington Avenue in Manhattan—and our latest burning question. What is this hotel? And when will it open? When little is released about a new property, especially one in New York City, our interest is piqued. And so it is with this glass-fronted number to be run by Hersha Hospitality.

Here’s what we’ve learned about the mysterious hotel:

· Hersha manages lots of chain hotels including Hampton Inns and Hyatts, but this one will be more in line with their boutique properties The Duane Street Hotel and the Nu Hotel in Brooklyn.
· Hersha calls this branch of their business the Independent Collection and “IC hotels are designed for the independent-minded traveler seeking unique neighborhoods and indigenous culture.”
· It may be called 48 Lex or The Lex.
· According to a Hersha press release, it will open this year—as will another other IC property, the Union Hotel in Greenwich Village.
·
Steven Kamali Hospitality has been appointed by Hersha to help create food-and-beverage concepts for the hotel.
· It will have 116 luxury suites, and high-end retailers in the ground-level space.

Have you heard anything? Are we on the right track? We should have more intel for you from Hersha soon, but in the meantime, share what you know with us in the comments below.
