Hide Your Bubble Hems and Gladiator Sandals: W Hotels To Hire a 'Fashion Director'

W Hotels have always tried to put themselves at the forefront of fashion trends, even going so far as to create an entire clothing and jewelry collection inspired by new W hotels around the world.

But that apparently is not enough. W Hotels has decided to appoint its very own Fashion Director. Which means that fashion will be even more of a presence during your W hotel stay.

According to the WSJ, W already has its director picked out--stylist Amanda Ross. Her duties will include working with designers to create staff uniforms, special collections and styling the look of the guestrooms and Living Rooms at the hotel.

"I've always wanted to work with a lifestyle brand," said Ms. Ross this week. She says she'll be working to create a "fashion point of view" for the chain's leading hotels, and will bring in designers to create small collections inspired by those hotels.

We're reacting to the news cautiously. We love fashion here at HotelChatter and we can't wait for W staff to get new designer uniforms. And it's no secret that many of the W properties could use a little lift.

But we also don't want a fashion stylist imposing on our hotel stay. Will she be telling us what is appropriate to wear at Whiskey Blue or at Mr. Chow? Will there now be ads prompting us to buy W merchandise at every turn of our hotel stay? We already dislike the hotel that employ too-cool staffers who look down at anyone that's not model-esque. Will W now do that when we show up in last season's leggings and oversized shoulder bag? We hope not.

W will make the official announcement for Ross next week, which just happens to be New York Fashion Week. We'll keep you posted.

hmm...

i work at a W hotel and I think its so funny that they're doing all this expensive stuff when full time employees can't even get 40 hours a week because business is so slow.
Maybe instead of launching W merchandise they should put some money into reviving the older properties so people will actually want to stay there.
