Hilton Tosses Points, IHG Pulls Up Quick To Retrieve 'Em (And HHonors Members)

So our headline featuring a Sir Mix-a-lot line doesn't quite work but the situation is the same--Hilton Hotels began devaluing some of their HHonors points back on January 15 to the outrage of many devoted Hilton guests and Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG) is pulling up quick to retrieve 'em.
IHG just launched a new "Luckiest Loser" contest, aimed specifically at HHonors members. Here's how it works:
· HHonors Members must also be members of the IHG's Priority Club Rewards.
· Members need to tell PCR just how many points they lost.
· PCR will automatically give back 1,000 bonus points.
· The top 20,000 "losers" will earn back 20 percent of the Hilton points they lost. The biggest Luckiest Loser will earn 2 million in loyalty points. That's enough to stay at IHG for free for nearly three months!
The contest runs from now through February 28. As always with loyalty points promos, fine print reading is a must. The biggest catch here seems to be that you must have been a Priority Club member as well as an HHonors member before January 31, 2010. Still, if you're heavily invested in HHonors points this could be a way to gain more free nights. And IHG might be an upgrade from Hilton. The budget brands (Holiday Inn, Staybridge Suites) offer free WiFi and they've now got the boutiquey Hotel Indigo in their collection.
