With all the hip food business we told you about yesterday going on downtown at The Ace Hotel, it’s somehow comforting to know that uptown it’s business as usual. Meaning? Expensive French restaurants in fancy-pants hotels! Today, Jean-Georges Vongerichten opens the latest spoke in his wheelhouse, The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges, inside the Upper East Sides’s Mark Hotel.

The venerable chef likes the word “comfort,” too. He’s loaded the menu here with “comfort food,” including pastas, beef tenderloin, a rack of lamb, and The Mark Cheeseburger. He explains on his blog that his favorite new dish debuting at the new space is his Croque M—a cross between a croque monsieur and croque madame. With Mornay sauce, gruyere, and comte, it sounds decadent.

In other words, it probably suits the new digs. What happens when Jean-Georges meets (the hotel’s designer) Jacques Grange? A stunning space that feels “high-end and flush,” says Vongerichten. If your wallet’s feeling the same, get in quick and make your reservation. And don’t forget to come back here and give us a play-by-play of your meal.

We love to eat vicariously through others. Keeps our wallets and waistlines slim.
