Oscars time is right around the corner, and if you're dying to see whether Meryl will beat out Sandra for best actress or whether Avatar will sweep all the categories, watch the show in style. This week, we'll look at Academy-sanctioned hotel shindigs where you'll be able to dress up, see if you won the office Oscar pool and help raise cash for charity.

Hollywood may have the glitzy Oscar parties, but we just might be tempted to pass up the chance for star sightings to attend the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza's 1950s/B-movie-themed bash and after-party on March 7.

Okay, okay, so we'd never give up the opportunity to cozy up with George Clooney or see Penélope Cruz's outfit in person. But we wouldn't be that sad if we got to hang at this retro party. The festivities kick off at the Carew Tower arcade for cocktail hour, with drive-in-movie-inspired gourmet treats such as mini sliders, root-veggie fries, mini milk shakes, mini whoppie pies and snowballs, and a gourmet popcorn bar. But don't fill up too much, because the party will then move to the hotel's Hall of Mirrors for a three-course dinner.

The 1950s theme won't only be found on the menu. You'll be transported to the era with oldies dining room and living room sets, beauty shop chairs, actual theater chairs, vintage signs courtesy of Cincinnati's American Sign Museum and old posters dolling up the scene.

The after-party returns to the arcade, where you'll learn how to swing, shag and jitterbug from the Cincinnati Bop Club and get lessons on proper hula-hooping from Shine Yoga. There'll also be an old-school photo booth, casino games, pinball and a DJ, who will spin for cool cats on the dance floor.

Tickets, which are available online, cost $150 and include entry to the after-party. Though you cheapo daddy-os can just attend the after-party for $20. Proceeds benefit People Working Cooperatively, a group that provides home repairs and services to low-income elderly and disabled homeowners.

If you think you'll get too tired cutting a rug at the after-party, the hotel is offering $110 rooms, which usually start at $159. To get the Oscar discount, call the hotel at 513-421-9100 and mention the special rate.
