Marriott Has a Pretty (and Pretty Useful) New Website

It's a brand-new year and Marriott Hotels have a brand-new website which we just noticed today.

When you log onto Marriott.com, you're greeted with a stack of spread out "trading cards" if you will, each denoting a different section of the site. However, front and center is the Marriott Reservations tool because that's probably what you came here for in the first place.

What we liked right off the bat is the "Weekends on Sale" card poking out on the left. People want deals and they want deals on the weekends, not just on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. However, when we clicked it, it was just a Visa gift card promotion (i.e. tay the weekend and get a $50 Visa card.) But just beyond that Weekends "trading card" is the Hotel Deals section which listed three deals teasers and a link to the general deals page.

Lining the bottom of the hotel's home page are quick links to Bill Marriott's blog, the comprehensive Marriott News Center (which is a little slow to load today), the option to earn 30,000 Marriott rewards points (through a credit card offer) and most importantly, the all-new Marriott reservations center. Clicking the left or right arrows on the bottom menu takes you to more Marriott programs like the honeymoon registry, the Shop Marriott store and the Marriott Rewards Insiders online travel community where guests can share tips with one another.

We're still playing around with the site but overall, we're pretty impressed with Marriott's new look. Yet we can't say it's surprising. Over the past few years, Marriott has aggressively gone after social media--hello, Bill Marriott is BLOGGING--and ditching the stuffy corporate website look is yet another move that Marriott has made to keep up with the ever-changing trends of the online world.

Now we're just waiting for the day when we log onto Marriott.com and a hologram of Bill Marriott jumps out of our computer screen to welcome us. We hope he likes hugs!

Marriot's pretty website

This is a great & smart move! I checked out the site and it's refreshing to see a large corp brand like Marriot look more nimble online. Great images & layout which are pluses to the user experience. Let's see if they keep this move over the long-term. Would have loved to see Twitter & FB incorporated a little bit more obviously, but that shouldn't impact the experience much - since booking rooms is the priority. Again, good move!
