We tend to think of San Antonio being fairly laidback, but Omni Hotels is set to change all that, by launching their new high-end Mokara brand by rebranding the city’s Watermark Hotel & Spa, from April 1st.

The Watermark will be the first to fly the Mokara flag, but more Omni properties will follow—the focus will be on rebranding existing hotels more than developing new builds.

Omni’s senior VP for development tells Hotels magazine that the Mokara brand will be positioned on the same playing field as other luxury hotels that share a focus on spas and wellness, such as Mandarin Orientals and Shangri-Las.

Or, if you need this spelled out in a way your bank manager could understand:

The target demographic for Mokara are adults aged 35 to 54 with a household income of more than US$100,000. Mokara will be marketed at executive-level business travelers looking to relax, as well as affluent couples interested in a weekend retreat.

In other words: Look for your bank manager kicking back in this hot tub.

    not sure about this

I understand Omni's need and desire to rebrand their only "non-branded" hotel, the Watermark, but I'm not sure of the future potential for Mokara.  First off, to successfully spin off and/or create a sub-brand, the primary brand has to be well known and established.  Omni remains relatively small, almost all in the US and really not defined as a brand.  They are more like a collection of pretty nice hotels.  There's no consistency in look, feel or service.

Omni has their hands full with Omni and this can and will divert attention away from their core - bad move.
