The NoMad Hotel Holds Yet Another Party But Won't Open for Another Year

Just how desperate are NYC hotels to get a piece of Fashion Week? So desperate that hotels that aren't even open are opening up to host fashion shows. That's exactly what the NoMad Hotel did on Sunday night as they hosted the Commonwealth Utilities Fall 2010 show. The WSJ reports:

Guests entering the space off 28th Street found a raw, unfinished lobby with exposed beams, stripped walls and peeling paint on the ceiling. The man next to us half-joked that it looked like the ceiling would collapse upon us.

Hmmm...so we're guessing a Spring 2010 hotel opening is out of the question? Actually we found the answer right on the hotel's website. It now says "Opening 2011."

The NoMad has pulled this sort of stunt before, hosting a W magazine back in November. But the Standard Hotel initiated this pre-opening tactic first, hosting a Construction Chic party in September of 2008. We're not fans of any designer imposters here but we understand why the Nomad want copy the Standard's successful strategies especially considering that the golden child of the hipster hotel world, the Ace Hotel, is just next door. But having us wait until 2011? Big, big, BIG faux pas.
