It’s only been open for a week and already the Hudson Hotel’s new nightclub, Good Units, is courting controversy.

The New York Post reports today that 24 murals and photographs were stolen off the club’s walls last Thursday night when it hosted a Keith Haring by House of Field fashion week party.

Now, we have sticky fingers when it comes to hotel toiletries, but stealing art? That’s a lot more brazen. And what does it tell you about the kind of crowd that Good Units is attracting?

The photos in question were styled by Sex and the City and House of Field doyenne Patricia Field, and star artsy celebrities who knew the late Keith Haring, including Mark Ronson. They were also autographed, making us wonder if they’ll show up on eBay any second now.

The party’s organizer Sandra Shafer told the Post that each print was worth at least $3,000, and that she has asked the hotel to explain how the theft could have happened. (Some of the photos and murals were over 6 feet wide.)

A rep for the Hudson, however, told the paper that guests at the event were encouraged to graffiti the walls (which sounds very Haring-esque) and that they may have believed the pictures “were there to be taken.”

Hmm. We’ll let you know if the missing pictures show up, and in the meantime, let us know if you have any scoop from this party last week. (Anonymity assured.)

And to think that last week Good Unit’s biggest problem was no cell phone reception
