Fairmont Pacific Rim Encouraging Olympics Guests to Drink Tap Water

We're not sure we've ever seen a hotel steer guests away from buying bottled water from the hotel mini-bar but we like it. The brand-new Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver has begun selling a stainless-steel portable water container with the Fairmont logo in the mini-bar with a little tag attached that says "Free Refills."
The goal is to get guests to buy the container and use the city's tap water to fill up instead of buying plastic water bottles, much to the dismay of Olympics sponsor, Coca-Cola who will be selling their Dasani water bottles all over town.
The CBC reports that the hotel is one of the first to join Vancouver's campaign to encourage Olympics visitors to use the city's tap water. And it was not without some hesitation from the hotel's general manager who was worried about losing out on revenue.
"Bottled water is a major seller in our guest rooms through the mini-bars," said hotel manager Randy Zupanski. "I was concerned about the fall-off of those sales … but it's the right thing to do."
Considering that the price tag of the Fairmont water container is $12.95 we think they should be ok.
