Thompson Toronto

Just a few weeks ago, we were trying to make some sense out of the TopGuest social media rewards program. While we liked the idea of a program that rewards us for our social media activity at hotels, TopGuest became hard to keep up with.

TopGuest founder Geoffrey Lewis did a comment to HotelChatter detailing some updates to the program that should clear up some of the confusion and we're now checking them out.

Yet even as we continue to mull this program over, TopGuest is still going gangbusters on attracting new partners. The latest to join the fray--Thompson Hotels.

After you download the TopGuest iPhone or Android app (and of course, register for a free TopGuest membership), you can earn 15 percent off at any Thompson Hotel after five Facebook or Foursquare check-ins. Not too bad, especially if you frequent the many bars and restaurants of Thompson Hotels in LA, NYC, DC, Toronto and Chicago.

Thompson, via TopGuest, also promises to send "exclusive perks" directly to your phone. Not sure what those perks are but we hope it includes free WiFi or free cocktails. Still, it looks like we have another good reason to stay interested in TopGuest after all.

You can sign up online for TopGuest here and register your Foursquare, Twitter and Gowalla handles. Otherwise, you can download the free app to your iPhone or Droid and connect using your Facebook account.

What about you--have you ever earned anything with TopGuest? Let us know in comments below!

Top Guest - interesting but confusing

I've earned a stay credit with Kimpton and points on Virgin with Top Guest.

However, it's still confusing. I can't tell if I earn a Kimpton stay credit for the first time I check in at each unique hotel or restaurant, or if I only earn one Kimpton stay credit for the first time I check in ever anywhere. (Needless to say, if it's the latter it weakens the loyalty aspect of Top Guest - there's less incentive to check in.)
