Where's Ian?

Could it be that the man who promised to bring something game-changing to the hotel world with The Gramercy Park Hotel has decided to call "game over"?

There was an ominous item in the NY Post yesterday about how hotelier Ian Schrager is close to selling off his luxury hotel to developer Aby Rosen.

Hotelier Ian Schrager is expected this week to finalize an estimated $20 million deal with developer Aby Rosen to buy Schrager out of the hotel.

We're trying to figure out if this is just a financial transaction that would leave Ian still involved in the hotel's operations or if he is really washing his hands of the property.

Of course, people in the NYC hotel know have probably been expecting this as it sounds like Schrager has been looking to get out of this hotel for a while. Indeed back in July there were whispers that Schrager would be leaving, thanks to loan woes.

But never fear you aspiring hoteliers in your cashmere blazers and fabric loafers, he's not leaving the hotel world. He's got that whole thing with Edition Hotels and he's still working on his "sexy" new hotel coming up in Chicago. He's even expressed desires to start another hotel company again. One place Ian will not be heading? The troubled Hotel Chelsea. Thank God.

Meanwhile, Eater.com suspects that the Rose Bar's days of exclusivity are over as the hotel's "creative director" Nur Khan, the man who also is responsible for those Rose Bar Sessions, has also left the hotel. So that means we may have a chance of getting in there after all.

You tell us--is the bloom finally off the Rose for the Rose Bar and The Gramercy Park Hotel or is it still one of the best hotels in NYC? Share your thoughts in comments below!
