Hogmanay fireworks

If there’s one place we’d love to have a blowout on New Year’s Eve, it’d be Edinburgh. Which is unfortunate, because it means we’re sorely tempted by the deal that the George Hotel has going for Hogmanay right now.

It’s auctioning off its massive Panorama suite – which comes with a roof terrace looking over Edinburgh Castle and across as far as Fife – for the 31st. And, even more winningly, it’s in aid of charity, too.

The auction is taking place on Ebay, and although when we last looked the latest bid was a mere £21, the reserve price is £400 ($600). For your moolah, you and 40 guests will get a champagne and canapés reception, and pretty spectacular views of the fireworks at midnight. The only problem is, you'll have to leave by 1am.

FYI, it’s unlikely you’ll get a rock bottom bargain – last year it went for £920, but even so, for a New Year venue, that’s pretty much a steal. And 20 percent of the winning bid will go to charity, and we all know there’s nothing like getting drunk for a good cause, right?

To bid, click here. The auction ends Friday at 3pm Edinburgh time (ie 10am East Coast/7am PST).
