UPDATE: A tipster tells us that there are some talks going on between Cooper Square and "Tribeca Associates and others" and that this deal could be wrapped up in a week or two. We'll keep you posted.

Vanishing New York has posted an interesting little tidbit that a tipster passed onto us over the weekend---The Cooper Square Hotel may have been sold to Grand Hotels, they who already possess The Soho Grand and the Tribeca Grand. So could this soon be the Cooper Grand?

Before we get ahead of ourselves, this is just a rumor (for now) but it would not surprise us as the Cooper Square has had so many troubles since its inception from opening delays to owner scuffles to neighborhood complaints. So having the Grand Hotels step in and run the place could be a very good thing. Or maybe not, as Vanishing New York puts it:

But would this mean a summer bereft of dirty panties, douchebags, and orgasm sound effects?

That said, we did rather enjoy staying there last year. The room was tiny but the views were great, they offered us a glass of wine while they checked us in and the WiFi was free.

Looking to stay at the Coop? Room rates are still rather, ahem, "healthy" at $475 a night this weekend for a 300-sq.ft. Cooper 3 room. Until then, we'll keep you posted on whether this spot will turn into the Cooper Grand or not.

Got any scoop about what's going on at The Cooper Square Hotel? Let us know!
