The Ava Lounge is actually named after Hollywood screen siren Ava Gardner and the joint is described as an "eclectic mix of 1950s retro and French Riviera styles, with sculpted walls, bench seats, and black and white floors." When the weather's nice (or if you just need a smoke break), the wood0planked terrace gives guests some extra breathing room as well as views of the city skyline and the Hudson River.
Recent Yelp reviews give it rather good remarks, especially for those city views, with one person happy to see that the bar also serves sweet tea vodka. However, you should probably make a reservation before you go as several reviewers complained about the pickiness of bouncers.
If you're looking to party here for New Year's Eve, you should definitely get a room. Those are available for $494 a night and that includes complimentary WiFi and the very necessary late check-out of 2pm.
