Best Hotel Opening: The Waikiki Edition Hotel
It's what you've been waiting all year for--The 2010 HotelChatter Awards! We'll be bringing you the best and worst of the year all day today and part of tomorrow. Agree or disagree with our picks? Air your thoughts in comments below.
We kicked off this year compiling all the hotel openings that we knew of as best as we could and we went about keeping tabs on nearly all of them. (Sorry, China.) And while we're happy to report that many hotels that said they would open this year actually did, there was one that really stood out for us--The Waikiki Edition Hotel which opened in late September.
Yes, the hotel brand that just one year ago made our Worst Hotel Hype is now on our Best list. But we guess that's what happens when you finally deliver the goods after stringing us along for two years.
Of course, that's not to say the hotel doesn't have anything else going for it. After all, this is spawn of Bill Marriott and Ian Schrager.
From the modern design, bright-colored sarongs and free WiFi in the guestrooms to the signature cocktails, the cool surfboard art installation at check-in, the multiple pool decks and private beach lagoon, the Morimoto restaurant and the Crazybox nightclub, the Edition Waikiki has brought a fresh new, contemporary experience to Honolulu.
And having a bunch of celebs, including Christina Aguilera fresh off her divorce, at the hotel's grand opening weekend didn't hurt either.
We were able to get an inside look at the property through a gracious tipster and the photos have us genuinely excited. Now we can't wait for other Editions to open. Next up? Istanbul Edition this Spring.
