We came across the new Firmdale hotel site in Soho which left us wondering whatever happened to it. The Firmdale sign is still up but it doesn’t look like work has started. So we had a scout around online to see what we could find.

News of the hotel first broke in September 2009 and work was scheduled to start in 2010. But with only a couple of days left it doesn’t look like they’ve got very far. The last news story about the planned hotel was back in June when the London-based hotel group revealed more about the new hotel in Caterer

Here is what we do know: The hotel will be located on Great Windmill Street in the heart of Soho and just around the corner from Firmdale’s Soho Hotel. The new hotel will be slightly different in style and is set to become the group's flagship hotel. The luxury hotel will cost 90 million pounds. Once completed the hotel will have 90 bedrooms, restaurant, bar, bowling alley, cinema, and event rooms.

We can’t find an opening date but fingers crossed it will be in time for the Olympics. The hotel will have some stiff competition with the St John Hotel and the W London both a five minute walk away. But if it’s anything like our favourite Firmdale hotel, The Crosby Street Hotel we're sure it won't need to worry.
