Last month there was a rumor going around that the Cooper Square Hotel in NYC would be sold to Grand Hotels--they of the Soho and Tribeca Grands. Well, Curbed reports now that the deal is off with reps for the hotel releasing the following statement

"The Cooper Square Hotel will not be purchased by an outside party. The hotel will continue to operate under managing partner Klaus Ortlieb and his team. The hotel will announce plans for a new restaurant in early 2011."

Ok, Klaus, this is your last chance to wow us. Also, another new restaurant? Faustina just opened last February but according to the Village Voice, chef Scott Conant is closing the resto because the hotel's new (old?) owners want to run the restaurant themselves.

Before Faustina, Cooper Square was home to Table 8 from Chef Govind Armstrong, which also did not do very well--hence, Faustina. While we'll remain hopeful for Cooper Square in 2011, you can see why that might be tough.
