The hotel, which has a picturesque beach location on the on the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula in Ballena Bay, isn't allowed to accept new guests and is supposed to evacuate current hotel guests within 24 hours. However, the health ministry said it could take up to a week to do that properly.
The hotel will be shut down until the health ministry can figure out what caused the diarrhea outbreak. Initially, officials thought it was food poisoning. But now the hotel is looking to see if the pool was the culprit. Whatever the cause, we feel really bad for the guests who spent their Christmas vacation at the resort.

UPDATE: A reader who mistakenly thought HotelChatter stayed here during the crappy time (we did not, this was just a news report we picked up) writes in to us about the better place to visit in Costa Rica:
The pool may be a problem or the local food management. If you were to visit the southern part of Costa Rica, and ate with the locals, you’d find fresh fish, natural waters and clean vegetables – no worries for GI problems – pura vida. Spread the word – and move to more natural surroundings. Bet you don’t publish this.
