But they are good for something – to celebrate being the official hotel provider for the games, today, and for today only, the UK branch of Holiday Inn is releasing rooms for £20.12.

Why today? This had us stumped, too, but it’s because it’s the 20th day of the 12th month. All about marketing, see?

There are 150 hotels across the UK taking part in the deal, and you can book for stays from 26 December till 9 January, although New Year’s Eve is blacked out.

It may be tight on time, but the savings are real – you can stay on 26 December at the HI Bloomsbury, in central London, for £20.12 when without the deal, it’ll cost £130. So if you fancy a quick trip to London, or elsewhere in the UK, now’s the time.
