For $160 and no resort fee, we likey

Tick tock, tick tock – the wrapping will soon be coming off at the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas – the most exciting opening on the Strip since, well, CityCenter last year. And, to go with the countdown, we have some rather exciting news – it looks like room rates are already dropping.

The hotel will open as planned December 15, and rooms are still available for opening night – for $300 (this could mean they’ve released more rooms, as last time VegasChatter checked, they’d sold out. The next night, rates drop to $250, then $275 for the weekend, and then there’s a huge drop to $160 for the following Monday and Tuesday (20-21 December). Again – excellent news – that’s cheaper than they were on October 21 when the lowest rate VC could find was $175. Plus there’s still no sign of a resort fee, and, even better, according to their Facebook page, the concierge is already up and running!

We’re loving the marketing so far – the slow drip drip of photos (yesterday’s sample: pics of Comme Ca restaurant on its own Facebook page) and the attitude on the homepage which proudly states “it’s not for everyone”. Brave!

Of course, the real test will be New Year’s Eve. The Cosmo has lined up both Jay Z and the Black Eyed Peas to perform and although we’re not so jazzed about the BEPs (after all, they played Vegas last NYE as well, at LAX) the night should be a riot.

Let’s just hope that, after all this, it lives up to expectations.
