For some folks, Thanksgiving is a magical, heart-warming time with family. For others, it's hell. Even more so this year now that the flying home for the holidays has become so much more traumatic. Which is why we like the sound of the Ace Hotel Palm Springs' non-traditional holiday lineup.

If we were in California, we'd totally ditch the aunts and uncles, ditch the TSA, jump in our (imaginary) convertible, and hightail it to the funky hotel in the desert to get drunk and swim.

For anyone with a shred of traditionalist in them, there is still a Thanksgiving feast to be had: the hotel's dinner will be served on Thursday from 12–8 p.m., in the King's Highway restaurant and cost just $36. The menu includes a roasted roulade of Willie Bird turkey, squash, shelling bean & sweet corn stew, whipped potatoes and vanilla-infused carrots and parnsips. Dessert is pumpkin pie cheesecake with cranberry coulis.

The day after Thanksgiving is the big Black Sheep Kick-Off Party in the Commune, with The Jackie Beat Show, featuring Selene Luna. Then on the 27th, it's pool party time! DJs including Victor Rodriguez and Chris Bowen will spin from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Aside from the dinner, weekend events are free for guests and Swim Club members/passholders. Visitors just need 10 bucks to partake.
