So...who wants to unwrap that big red bow and hop in for a spin? You can, for free, but only if you're calling a suite at the The Peninsula New York, The Peninsula Chicago or The Peninsula Hong Kong your temporary home during stays in those cities. The new cars will be available to suite guests for complimentary use three hours daily, starting now. Perfect timing for holiday shopping, of course.

Last night, Peninsula Hotels unveiled these custom BMW MINI S Clubmans at the NY and Chicago properties, and we hung out in the middle of a New York City street to have a closer look. You kind of have to get up close and personal to notice the details; the MINI Clubmans have been fitted with special touches like door sills illuminated with The Peninsula name, a cold refreshment fridge in the trunk, iPod connections and a luggage box on the roof, with a design pattern evoking Louis Vuitton.

If you'll be in New York or Chicago soon, keep an eye out for the little Brewster Green beauties by the Peninsula New York entrance on 55th Street and 5th Avenue and the Peninsula Chicago's entrance at Superior Street and Michigan Avenue. Or, you know, there's always the driveway in front of The Peninsula Hong Kong which frequently resembles a luxury car show.

The unique rides are the newest addition to The Peninsula's already impressive worldwide fleet, which includes bespoke Rolls Royce Phantoms, vintage Rolls Royces from the 1930s and other BMW, and they're also the most city-friendly. Suites at The Peninsula New York begin around $1,275 per night during the holiday season.

They're cute, but...

I'm not sure of the practicality.

When I've stayed at the Peninsula Chicago, if I bought anything that was too cumbersome to carry back to the hotel, even in a cab, I would have it delivered.

Where can you go for three hours from downtown Chicago or Midtown Manhattan that's not more convenient in a taxi?

The design on the luggage carrier includes a detail of the stonework on the New York hotel - do the ones in Chicago have a different pattern?
