Do you need a little Dutch courage to pump you up for Thanksgiving travel next week? If you're in New York, you may want to consider this concoction which helped us get a head start on the festive spirits recently. It looks like the holidays, smells like the holidays and tastes like the holidays (what, yours don't taste like cocktails?).

The Velvet Spice is just one of a number of cocktails we sampled at Andaz 5th Avenue's bar downstairs, but it was one of our favorites.

It's made with Sailor Jerry rum, Punt e Mes (an Italian vermouth), Velvet Falernum and house orange bitters. But if your booze tastes lean more towards vodka, tequila or bourbon, there's plenty of other solid choices on the Seasonal Cocktail menu, all for $15 each.

The Sin Gusano and Mexican Firing Squad are for tequila fans, the Skinny Tie and Fresh Fruit Cobbler for vodka drinkers, and the Kentucky Islands, not surprisingly, is loaded with bourbon. We're also partial to the Cellar Door, which is made with Pimms, lemon, and more of that Sailor Jerry rum.

Happy pre-short week, pre-Thanksgiving Friday!
