It's been seven months since the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel opened and when we found ourselves in the area the other day, we thought we'd pop in for a snoop around. And whilst we were at it, try out the cocktails and food.

Inside the ground floor, two escalators lead up to the reception area. The decor has a black and red theme with low lighting throughout. Even in the day time it feels a little like a nightclub as there isn't much natural light about. The bar which was jumping in the evening, has a good selection of cocktails. We tried the Vino Vito and Vanilla Crème Brulee and both went down a treat.

We also had lunch in Brasserie Joel, the hotel's restaurant which has been getting some rave reviews and we're happy to report back the food was indeed fab. Plus the two course lunch deal for £18 is a good value too.

The highlight of the hotel is its views, the glass front means you can see Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament out of the windows. We didn't get to look inside a room but a guest at the hotel told us that the rooms were fairly spacious and although the floor to ceiling windows don't open the views are pretty special.

However be sure to request a room with views over the Thames otherwise you might end up looking out over Waterloo station, in which case you'll be wishing the windows weren't so big. Room rates start at 154GBP for this weekend, or around $244 a night.
