Fairmont Gift Cards Now 'Give Back'

Gift cards can feel like a lame, lazy choice for a holiday present. But if the recipient loves to travel, or just eat well and get their spa on, we think a hotel gift card is one of the best things you could give. And if you need a little icing on the cake--something to erase any lukewarm "oh, a gift card..." reactions--all you have to do is look for one that has a charity element. Voila, this year's Fairmont Hotels gift card!

For every gift card sold this holiday season, Fairmont will donate $5 to Mission Blue, a marine conservation initiative of the National Geographic Society.

This campaign aims to promote the creation of marine-protected areas and to inspire people to get off their butts and take action to help the cause.

This is no Johnny Come Lately effort either--Fairmont has been a sponsor of the National Geographic Mission Programs for some time now and some of the brand's hotels offer a Global Explorer Series, putting guests in the company of National Geographic experts to try different activities.

The gift cards range in denomination from $50 to $5,000 (now you know what HotelChatter would like for the holidays--thanks!).

The donation Fairmont makes to NGS from the gift-card sales is going to be capped at $75,000, which means they'll need to sell 15,000 gift cards to reach that limit. But you know what? We think they can do it. Get shopping for all your hotel maven friends, and feel good about it in the process!
