This is the W Signature Scent and Here's Where You Can Buy It

Earlier this week a reader was desperately seeking the name of the W Hotels Signature Scent as well as where he could buy it. We put forth the question to you readers and got some great answers, including a particularly detailed one from W Wuvver, MichaelSDacko. But behold, we have the final answer straight from W Hotels Headquarters.

The smell is actually from a W Hotels candle and its scent name is Sicilian Fig. It's described as "infused with rich cypress then finished with fresh lemon blossom and delicate heliotrope." It will burn for 50 hours and comes in a custom glass W vessel.

W tells us the scent is a custom W Hotels Worldwide scent used in all W Hotels (with some exceptions at international locations due to availability/shipping/customs, etc.) The candle can be bought for $25 in all 12 W Hotels stores. If you'd like it in a gift box, that will cost an extra $10.

W also told us that they do not use scent machines in hotels. The Living Rooms and other public spaces are scented solely by the candles. But up in the rooms, the spaces are scented with a custom scent that is not available for sale. This could be the scent our reader was after. So if it is, we're sorry--you're outta luck for now.

More smells coming from W can be found in the WCs and the lifts where reed sticks and infusers are used. W tell us those scents vary but "there are some common themes."

So now, the nose knows what W Hotels smells like...exactly. As for going about buying the Sicilian Fig scent, there are several candle options on the W Hotels website, including specific ones for W Hotels like W Istanbul and W South Beach. But these are not Sicilian Fig, nor is the W Hotels Candle that is listed on the site. We did however find a smaller version of Sicilian Fig listed as the W's Summer Candle from Vie Luxe for $12.50

Still your best option remains to track down the W Hotels Stores in person and buy a W Hotels Sicilian Fig candle there. Remember it costs $25 so don't go wasting another $40 on the wrong scent. Or you could do as Dacko recommended and "schmooze your W concierge to see if he/she can give you a complimentary candle."
