What’s even harder to find in London than a black cab on a rainy afternoon? A five-star luxury hotel that’s not part of a chain. Unless, that is, you’re staying at the Athenaeum Hotel.

Sure, there may be too many vowels in its name for us to keep track of, but this little family-owned hotel in Mayfair has quite a few amenities that will keep us coming back, as we discovered on a recent stay there. Follow us inside as we bring you this photo gallery and video walk-through of our room.

Aside from its pretty much perfect location on Piccadilly, right at the overlap of Mayfair and Hyde Park, the Athenaeum offers both traditional hotel rooms as well as 34 serviced luxury apartments with their own private entrances.

Other amenities include their Mary Poppins free nanny service which they’ve now combined with private access to London’s famous Hamley’s toy store just in time for the holidays, a Golf and Whisky Package in conjunction with its sister hotel, the Grove, a bar with the largest collection of scotch whiskies outside Scotland (and its own Whisky Sommelier), a 10-story vertical garden on its exterior wall, and an afternoon tea service that won the coveted Tea Guild’s Top London Afternoon Tea of 2010. And our favorite amenity of all, of course, free WiFi.

To see some of the other features we enjoyed, including the all-marble bathrooms, the Ren Clean Bioactive Skincare products, and the floor-to-ceiling bay windows in the rooms, take a look at the photos we snapped on our recent stay there and join us on a brief video tour of one of the standard rooms. That way it’ll feel like you’re stopping by for afternoon tea (or more likely, a dram of their whisky) yourself.

Rates in November start at 270 pounds per night ($430 USD).

Full disclosure: Eric Rosen spent three nights as a guest of the Athenaeum Hotel while on assignment for another publication, but all opinions expressed are his own.
