Everyone's Gonna Want a Piece of Jimmy Tomorrow Night

Don't worry, there's a separate elevator to whisk you to the rooftop here.
The James Hotel is finally opening its rooftop bar, Jimmy, tomorrow night. Yes, a rooftop bar opening in the middle of October in Manhattan. Wild, innit?
As you recall, we named this one of the 5 hotels to get drunk with dignity at this fall so we're supremely excited that it's now open. Here's what you can expect inside:
Jimmy’s design is a contemporary interpretation of the classic pub with a 1970's New York twist. Elements like herringbone floors, a leather trimmed solid wood bar top, brick glazed tile walls, rich blue upholstery and working fireplaces come together to create a sense of warmth.
Thomas Schlesser's [of Design Bureaux] use of masculine elements, inspired by a subtle recurrence of diamond patterns, offsets one of the most thorough and spectacular views in New York. Views of Midtown, Wall Street, all the bridges that traverse the East River and New Jersey's Gold Coast will engage guests at every angle.
Jersey has a Gold Coast? Who knew? The bar will also have a separate alcove area, separated by a privacy screen for guests to canoodle while looking uptown to the Empire State Building. In the summer months, the bar will open out to the roofdeck but remember, that itsy bitsy pool is just for guests.
Now, while sense of place is important, we're more concerned about the cocktails. Fortunately, we are in for some alcoholic goodness, thanks to Jimmy co-founder Johnny Swet. Most everything will be made in house including syrups, bitters and fresh squeezed juices. Herbs and garnishes will be grown in the hotel's own chef's garden and the cocktail offerings will change seasonally.
When the spot opens tomorrow, you will be able to order up a Mexican Bee Hive which has silver tequila, honey, lavender syrup, lime juice and a real chunk of honeycomb as a garnish. The 12 Gauge Grog is a rum concoction with passion fruit juice, lime and freshly grated nutmeg.
We could easily knock back a few of these, no problemo, but remember to coat your stomach before you go--the bar food menu will not happen until 2011. That's when Jimmy will also introduce wines by the glass, champagnes and a selected variety of beers and ales.
Oh and since this hotel is turning out to be quite the fashion spot, we would be remiss not to point out that the female servers will be wearing Rag & Bone LBDs while menfolk will sport "distinctive" herringbone or charcoal vests.
Jimmy officially opens tomorrow night to everyone, not just hotel guests. Use the separate entrance at 15 Thompson Street to get whisked up to the rooftop bar.
