New year, new lust. We're back in covet mode, and in 2010's first installment of Hotel Lust, we're thirsting for a stay at the "Unique Presidential Suite" at Hotel Cala di Volpe in Porto Cervo, Italy. Ignore, if you will, the decidedly boring room name and indulge in a game of vacation fantasy with us.

The property lies on the Sardinian coast, with white-sand beaches, open-air markets populated by musicians and farmers, artisan shopping, and open air cafes all nearby for the kind of European romance that guide books hype. Touristy to the nth degree, but then again, it's pristine, leisurely surroundings that the hotel's well-monied clientele has come for.

Let's get to the good stuff, though. If you're going to go big, go Presidential, because the eponymous suite is rife with frills. It's "crowned by a rooftop terrace with swimming pool" and boasts hand-crafted furniture made specifically for the three-bedroom, three-bath (all with Jacuzzi), dual living room, multi-patio, fitness area-adjacent suite. And a partridge in a pear tree.

As if that list of hyphenates wasn't enough, there are also Bang & Olufsen electronics, balconies (plural), a steam room, and solarium singular to the space.

The last ballpark quote we found for the suite—a radical misnomer, as it seems more like a small coastal house—was $34,000 per night. That puts it up there with the Burj Al Arab's Royal Suite and Bridge Suite at the Atlantis Paradise Island.

Cala di Volpe will be closed through May 13th of this year, after which time it will open up for summer travel season. We found rooms starting at 445 Euros/night for late May, with some of the more opulent rooms not listed as available. Looks like the early hedonist gets the Deluxe Suite.
