Hilton Puts Weekends On Sale But Are They Worth It?

Ooh, January sales! We love us a good shoe bargain but we love a deal on our next vacation even more. One of the first hotel chain deals of the new year comes from Hilton, although our initial excitement turned to the kind of disappointment you get when you find just one lone shoe on the sale rack with no partner.
The deal sounds good—Hilton are offering up to 50% off weekend stays at participating hotels worldwide. But the savings are more like 20% or 33% off at some properties, and try as we might, we struggled to find any properties in Europe offering the discount, and we plugged in a variety of cities and dates.
The good part is the deal is for any trip during 2010—as long as you book before January 31. And kudos to Hilton for giving us discounts on weekends—usually you have to travel mid-week to save on rates.
We suggest using this deal sooner rather than later, and escaping to warmer climates like the Bahamas—the British Colonial Hilton Nassau is $177.55 a night the weekend of January 29–31—or Mexico, where on the weekend of January 22–24 the Hilton Cancun Golf and Spa Resort is $133 a night, and the Hilton Los Cabos Beach & Golf Resort is $197 a night.
Another tip? Since Miami hotels are sold out for the Super Bowl, you could hit up Fort Lauderdale for the Pro Bowl on January 31 instead. The Hilton deal will get you a room at the Fort Lauderdale Grande Hotel and Yacht Club for $166.83 a night the weekend of January 29–31. Or head just a little further north to the Hilton Deerfield Beach, where rooms are available for just $99.83 a night.
