After months of tracking the status of The Distrikt Hotel in New York, we are overjoyed to report that the opening date is finally within sight: the city-proud property opens on February 1st.

To celebrate the occasion, the hotel is offering special rates starting at just $129 a night, although the first date we found available was February 8.

We can't wait to see those much-vaunted collages in the rooms, the 14-foot "living wall" in the lobby, and of course how the neighborhood theme plays out in real life. Will the SoHo floor be crowded with shopping-mad tourists? Will the Financial District level house frenzied bankers trying to repent for this economic mess we're all in?

Not long now until we find out. Stay tuned for more Distrikt news, and of course, let us know if you check out the hotel yourself.

Everything looks good minus the Location.

This hotel looks great, but the location is a little less than desired. It does have great amenities and the pictures look really nice, but if I decide to try a new hotel, why not do the Standard? It is in a way better location for the young urban chic crowd both are marketing towards, and has had a reputation long before it was ever built. The only set back would be that the Standard is double the opening price of the Distrikt. I think the Distrikt will get a lot of pull for tourists wanting to be close to times square but still wanting a luxury style hotel, but some of us veteren visitors may be reluctant to try it out.

checking it out

I'll actually be staying here the night of the 1st so I'll be sure to report back asap!

For the forecommentor: "Why not do the Standard?" - Price, price and price ($135 vs $355!). Don't know about you, but we (i.e. me) are still very much in a recession over here.

Side note: The Distrikt is part of The Ascend Collection.
