Ace Hotels Apparently Not 'Too Cool' To Blog

January 25, 2010 at 9:45 AM | by | Comments (2)

The Ace Hotels are already known as purveyors of cool so we’re not surprised that they’ve started a blog—just that it’s taken them so long to do so. The still fledgling blog, which you can find here, looks appropriately lo-fi, fitting right in with the chain’s artsy vibe. Featured posts include photobooth strips of the Portland staff, and videos of the artists who worked on their walls at work.

In the email introducing their new home on the world wide web, Ace said the blog would be a showcase for “things about Ace that you may want to know. Like the artists who worked on the hotels, cultural events, videos, room deals, and whatever else we feel like posting.” In other words, they’re no different from your moody 14-year-old cousin.

So far, there are a couple of practical posts mixed in with the show-offy ones—information on packages plus links to Ace press coverage—but we think the blog shows promise. We’re holding out for April Bloomfield of The Breslin at The Ace New York to post recipes, and in the meantime, especially on a Monday, we’re taking solace from the blog’s subtitle: Everything Will Be Okay.

bad photo?

i'm all for ace hotels blogging but considering that a young man died at the ace pool in palm springs this year, that photo with the headline "We had a good year" is not quite right.

Bait & Switch

I am a Palm Springs area resident and have been going to the Ace for the past couple months for the advertised Sunday Short Bus pool parties, bringing friends from out of town, and spending A LOT of money at the restaurant and bar.  Today, I was bringing a friend there who had not been to the Ace before, and as soon as we walked into the outside bar/pool area, we were asked to leave because we were not hotel guests (or pay $12.00 to stay.)  Their staff was anything but friendly about it, and obviously did not care about the money we were about to spend at their establishment.

I went on their website advertising the Sunday pool parties, and there is NO WORD of a cover charge for locals - nor is there any mention of this in their advertisements.  (http://www.acehotel.com/palmsprings/shortbus) I feel like I was a victim of a bait and switch ploy and will be telling my guests and local friends to spend our Sundays and our money elsewhere.  It's too bad because we really have enjoyed this property until this incident.
