Now's the Time to Book a Stay at San Francisco's Priciest Hotels

The view from The Westin Market Street
Hotel deals in San Francisco are ripe for the picking right now. You could say this has something to do with the January travel slow down, or the generous spirit of hoteliers (doubtful). Check out this may-jah discount we found (via Travelzoo) for The Westin Market Street, right in the heart of Union Square: a mere $105-129 for travel during late March/early April if you book by February 1st.
Good news for you, prospective guests, but hotel bigwigs might be mourning having to slash prices, even though occupancy seems to be up on the whole. The City by the Bay is being hit especially hard by the overall economic slump, according to a recent report. Compared to the previous year, "San Francisco room rates...averaged $155.02 per night for the month — a 13.2 percent drop from average rates of $178.61 [in November 2008]."
So, what does this mean for you? Nicer rooms at more expensive hotels, but for less than you would normally pay, as "[high class] hotels...saw [their] rates decline the most." But, to reap the benefits of such price cuts, you'll have to make your move early. Plenty of other travelers are already jumping on deals, hence the rise in room occupancy.
Springtime in San Francisco doesn't sound so bad to us, especially amidst four-star surroundings.
