The looooong-awaited Chatwal New York is apparently still on track to open this spring. Wanna make a bet? Perhaps you’d like to play a round of cards to settle this guessing game?

What’s this? Oh, only the first photo of anything specifically Chatwal we could get our hands on. This, my friends, is the deck of Chatwal playing cards that will be available in the guest rooms. We got a sneak peek at them, and a few other details, on a tour of the still-under-construction hotel this week.

It looks like there’s still a fair bit of work to be done before the property can open, but that’s partly because GM Joel Freyberg is a bit of a perfectionist. And crazy about the Art Deco period.

We already knew about the vintage-trunk-inspired interiors, leather-wrapped closets, and super-luxe bedding, but now we’ve seen with our very own eyes that this attention-to-detail borders on obsession.

These cards come in a spiffy silver case resembling a flapper’s cigarette case that we adore, and as you can see there’s a bit of Vargas Girl love on the face cards.

We also laid eyes on the custom-made leather cardholders from Asprey, and they look and feel expensive. Which makes sense. This is one high-end puppy of a property.

We’ll have more on The Chatwal, its inspiration, and its opening rates next week.

Exotic!

Looking forward to be transported back in time.. a la elegance! This hotel is on my must stay in NY list...and has quite a buzz in Europe and Australia already.
