Help Haiti With Your SPG and Marriott Points

As the aftermath of the massive earthquake in Haiti continues to reveal worse than expected damage, destruction and death tolls, countries and people from around the world are asking what they can do to help.
And help is arriving in some unusual forms. Domestic airlines like JetBlue and American flying medical personnel and doctors to Haiti. (Update: That was a hoax. See comments below.)
For the folks feeling hopeless at home, several text messaging operations have been going around whereby cellphone users text a code to a number and automatically $5 or $10 will be sent to a humanitarian rescue effort. The charges will show up on your bill at the end of the month.
And now we hear that Starwood Hotels' loyalty program, Starwood Preferred Guest is offering a way to help too.
Guests with SPG points can donate them to the American Red Cross. Here is the breakdown:
· 4,000 points is $50
· 8,000 points is $100
· 12,000 points is $150
·16,000 points is $200
This is actually an ongoing program and not something that was created in response to the situation in Haiti. But right now, every little bit helps. Go Here for more details and to send in your SPG Points donations.
You can do this as well with your Marriott Rewards Points too. According to the Charitable Donations on the Marriott Site, this is the breakdown for the rewards donations:
