You'll score some great deals on the Gold Coast hotel's furniture. However, you may not think so when you see, for example, a chair for $149. Thing is, the chair is worth $2,500. "This stuff is real, that's the reason people flock here," Zawitz says. "We know it's used and we know it has nicks and scratches, but you can put love and care and put it back in its original state." He said that people shell out for the furniture because of the high quality and because it's from the Ritz, of course.
The hot sellers over the weekend included sofas—a lot of which went in first two minutes of the sale—wood-and-gold-trimmed mirrors and all different types of chairs. But there's still lots of furniture left. One of the best picks is the overstuffed lobby chairs, which cost $249 apiece but are worth $3,000 to $4,000. You'll also find loads of credenzas and artwork.
Fort Pitt, which claims to be the only company in the country that sells used furniture exclusively from four- and five-star hotels, will have two other shipments from the Ritz in coming weeks. To get first dibs the swanky furniture, sign up for the store's newsletter on its website and you'll get special email alerts when the swanky goods come in. The store, at 1400 W. 37th St., is open Monday to Saturday 9:30 am. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m.
