Have You Ever Won a Free Hotel Stay on Twitter?

January 13, 2010 at 12:15 PM | by | Comments (4)

it's too bad that Twitter doesn't have any sound effects, because for many, it would be the cha-ching of a cash register. For individuals and companies alike, social media is the new hotspot for contests and giveaways which, in the past, belonged in supermarkets with pads of entry sheets, or with mail-in postcards after watching a TV commercial about a sweepstakes.

As one-on-one (or millions-on-millions) as Twitter is, it is an extremely easy way for hotels to attract new guests, flatter loyal ones, and generally get their name out there with the messages they approve.

Thus it comes as no surprise that hotel Twitter contests have risen in popularity over the last few months, as they dredge about for new followers and engage people to keep their brand in mind.

Everybody's doing it, including The Intercontinental Hotel Group, The Roger Smith Hotel (they seem to do it best), and The Roosevelt Hotel (who go with contests for super cheap rates, not free stays). And coincidentally, Affinia Hotels just kicked off a new Twitter contest (they've held several) for $24 hotel rooms in conjunction with the premiere of the TV show, 24.

But we want to know if you're responding; have you won anything on Twitter? Hotel stays, products, services...let us know if it's worth it to spend time in pursuit of freebies and what you think of the practice. Share you Twitter contest experience in the comments, and...oh yea...catch us on Twitter too @HotelChatter.

Marriott tweet to Hawaii

I won the Marriott Tweet to Hawaii contest, and it was well worth the pursuit. We got an all expense paid (airfare, hotel, food and activities), week-long trip to Oahu and the hotel was great. You can now call me a twitter contest junkie.

holy cow

that's awesome. i need to enter more twitter contests then!

Fairmont Dallas

I won a discounted room rate from @FairmontDallas - follow them as I believe they do it weekly and the room was huuuge! (bigger than my apartment) Definitely enjoyed it! I invited friends over to the Fairmont for a holiday party and its the perfect location for bars and dining. Looking forward to having more events there!
