Viceroy Snowmass Bumps Trance Music as You Ski-In, Ski-Out

Now that ski season has hit its peak (very punny, we know), it's the perfect time to check in with the Viceroy Snowmass to see if the resort is living up to its name.

A handful of TripAdvisor readers have chimed in with reviews, all of which praise its service, chic quotient, and over-the-top luxury amenities. We're hearing a lot of what we expected: gourmet food, cool bath fixtures, and obsessively clean—it is a Viceroy, after all—but we were surprised to hear one user describe it as having an "LA style 'boutique' feeling."

Just how "LA" is the Viceroy? So La-La that there's "[t]rance music...piped in EVERYWHERE you go." That's wildly different than the Overlook Hotel-esque ski resorts we're used to staying at.

The Viceroy's staff also seems to be overwhelmingly guest-friendly. Like, leave-handwritten-notes-and-complimentary-wine-when-the-toilet-doesn't-work-right friendly. That acute attention to detail is evident online, too: witness the management responses to nearly every comment.

While a December 15th review said that the hotel was not ski-in/ski-out at the time, when we gave the hotel a call this morning, we were told that the lift next to the hotel was in service—good news for snow bunnies who are there for action on the slopes, not lazy afternoons with hot toddies.

We also caught glimpse of a "fourth night free" offer running on Viceroy's official website through January. It's pretty simple: book three nights, get the fourth for free. What's best, according to the call we made, is to communicate with them directly and check what dates the promo is valid. At the moment, we were told there are February openings for Studio accommodations.

Overall, Snowmass doesn't seem to be doing too shabby for a recently-opened resort. But then again, when you've got ski lifts outside your door, a Kelly Wearstler-designed cafe, and your own kitchenette with Viking appliances, how bad can things really be?
