Donny and Marie Invade Our Hotel Room Views in Vegas

We’re not above cheesy entertainment in Vegas. We would have happily gone to see foreign pop idols Matt Goss or Human Nature—and we did enjoy Cirque’s Viva Elvis on The King’s 75th birthday. But we’re not so hot on The Osmonds. Especially when the supposedly wholesome Donny and Marie mess with our hotel-room views of the Strip.

Our first stop was at the Flamingo, where we had upgraded from a regular GO room to a GO room with a view prior to arrival. (We received an email offering the upgrade for just 15 bucks, which the reservation agent assured us was a great deal.) Psyched for the view, we hit that big ol’ button for the blackout shades and sheer curtain … only to be greeted with this gauzy view of Caesar’s across the street.

Hmm. Glad we didn’t pay any more than $15 for that upgrade. We appreciate that lots of people like blackout shades for their hangovers, but hell, we had just come from frigid-freezin’ weather in New York. We wanted that hot sun!

We didn’t realize what was causing our diminished view until we moved over to Vdara the next day. There, from our room on the 27th floor, we could see the back of The Bellagio … and 20 storeys of Donny and Marie emblazoned over The Flamingo. First they ruin our view at their own casino, and then we had to stare at them from the zen palace that is Vdara? As the ESPN Monday Night Football crew would say, “C’mon, man!”

Thank god for nightfall and The Bellagio fountain. Along with a few strong cocktails, they’re the only things that saved us from those perma-perky Osmonds.
