Remember last week when it came out that the Crowne Plaza Secaucus was charged with dumping sewage waste into the New Jersey Meadowlands. Yeah, we were trying to forget about it ourselves but Intercontinental Hotel Group has sent us an official statement about the yucky situation.

IHG wanted to reiterate that the hotel is a franchised property that is independently owned and operated. However, just because IHG does not own the hotel, doesn't mean they don't care about the un-environmentally friendly practices that go on there.

The official statement from the hotel says:

IHG, through its affiliated companies, owns the Crowne Plaza® Hotels & Resorts trademarks and licenses them to third parties at franchised Crowne Plaza-branded hotels and resorts.

As with most properties in the Crowne Plaza system, the property located at 2 Harmon Plaza in Secaucus is franchised and therefore is independently owned and operated. As a franchisor, neither IHG nor any of its affiliates own, operate, or maintain franchised hotels. The license agreement with the franchisee requires compliance with all governmental laws and regulations. If IHG learns that a franchisee has been found not to be in compliance with its obligations under its license, IHG will investigate and determine what actions would be appropriate.

While IHG is very concerned about the reported health and environmental violations at 2 Harmon Plaza, IHG does not have the responsibility for responding to any such violations. IHG will not comment further at this time since the litigation is ongoing.
