In a move that makes us happy (hard to do on the day after a three-day weekend marking the end of summer), we've just heard that Kimpton Hotels will open their Hotel Palomar Philadelphia on October 15 in the City of Brotherly Love's Rittenhouse Square neighborhood.

Not only will the Palomar be the first Kimpton in Philly, but also the first Kimpton to receive LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

By the looks of the room renderings we’ve seen so far, the décor will reflect the property’s green cred. The exterior looks pretty exciting too: the hotel is situated in the landmark Architects Building, built in 1929, and known as one of the city’s best examples of Art Deco architecture.

The press release we received said that the Palomar is now taking room reservations for arrivals starting on or after November 10, but we were actually able to pull up dates from October 22 onwards. (Yes, it's one of those things where the hotel opens on one day but guest rooms follow a little bit later.) Those rates started at $259 a night for a Deluxe Queen, but if you go with October 23 instead (a Friday night) you can book the same room for $199 a night, or a City View Queen for $219.

Fancy spending a holiday in Philly? The $199 rate was also available for Halloween weekend; we found a $179 room for Thanksgiving; and a $159 a night for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. (New Year’s Eve, however, starts at $279 a night). These all fall under the Grand Opening promotional rate (no code required), which is available through December 31.

Throw in the fact that you can bring your pet along, and the arrival of Kimpton makes the idea of a Philly weekend way more appealing than a New York City “staycation” that could cost more than $500 a night.
