What all the rooms at the Salish Lodge will look like come December.

Even iconic beauties needs a little refresher every so often – take Sophia Lauren for example. We find it hard to believe she’s managed to hang onto her 38C-24-38 figure into her 70’s on just "a love of life, spaghetti, and the odd bath in virgin olive oil". All the power to her (and her plastic surgeon), because the Italian starlet still oozes majah sex appeal.

Ditto for Salish Lodge & Spa. Meander 30 minutes east of Seattle towards the quaint town of Snoqualmie and you’ll stumble upon one of the Pacific Northwest’s most postcard-perfect lodges, originally built in 1916. (Need a holiday card backdrop anyone? Even at the ripe old age of 93, the lodge is still a total stunner.)

Starting September 14, 2009, the lodge’s 89 guestrooms are going to get spruced up – just in time for the holiday season. According to the hotel, the color palette and custom furnishings, bedding and décor will better reflect the "native Salish people and natural surroundings of the Snoqualmie Valley."

Think hues of navy blue, emerald and turquoise hues that reflect the sky, Snoqualmie River and Puget Sound and dark grays representative of the local granite and stone. Seattle-based Dawson Design Associates worked with the Snoqualmie Valley Historical Society, sorting through hundreds of images of the native people and place to create a photo collage that will appear over each fireplace. How DIY crafty.

We’re excited to hear the bathrooms are being refreshed with new tiling, light fixtures, sinks and vanities. The facilities are perfectly functional, but on a recent stay, they felt a bit dated compared to the rest of the guestroom décor. While we’re thinking of it (and while you’re in there), you may want to rethink the Jacuzzi tub/shower logistics. We’re young and agile, but still had some difficulty stepping getting in and out.

The multi-tasking miracle workers at Dawson Design Associates plan on having the whole project completed by December 6, 2009 and the lodge will stay open throughout the renovation. The lodge assures guests that the project will be as unobtrusive as possible, with work only taking place in the mid-morning and early afternoon.

It’s a tough task to pull off, as hotel guests and renovation generally don’t mix. Fingers crossed the process goes smoothly, because Salish Lodge & Spa is one of our fave weekend getaways from Seattle and it’s just about U-Pick pumpkin time in Snoqualmie.
